Realism Painting

Is is true that anyone with enough time and dedication can learn realism painting?
Can you recommend any books?
There are a multitude of books, but the best way to develop a realist style is to learn to do “direct” drawing and painting. That means you draw from life, not photos, to learn how to depict form and volume, value and color temperature. Find a realist academy like our Seattle school, Gage Academy of Realist Art, or Art Student’s League in NYC. . . . and take classes in classical realism.
Not all realism is photo-realism, so know that even impressionistic styles can be deemed realism. I consider myself an impressionistic realist. Here are a few of my works:

That said, “Carlson’s Guide to Landscape Painting” and Richard Schmid’s “Alla Prima: Everything I know About Painting” are two books I would recommend for every serious painter’s library, and mine are working copies in which I take notes and underline just like study guides! There is more to Painting Realism besides being able to draw well, although that is important, and these two artists have summed up pretty well the study of light, edges and values for the painter seeking to create outstanding works of art.
